Vanessa Verdoodt , a world
mover,
dancer, writer,
performer and organizer
moved from Brussels to
Los Angeles at seventeen
to pursue her path. Vanessa
holds a B.A. from UCLA’s
World Arts and Cultures
Department,
an A.A. in International Business, and the CBEST.Awarded a scholarship
from the Dean of the Arts and Architecture and Artsbridge at UCLA, she has taught
World Dance and Global Consciousness curriculum including
Yoga,
Middle Eastern Dances, Hip Hop, Breakdance and House dance at Santa Monica High School. Vanessa has lived throughout the world starting in Brussels, Belgium then Los Angeles, New York, Ibiza and Dakar, and has traveled the five continents. Her commitment and passion for the culture and history of dance inspired her to write her thesis on ‘Global Hip Hop’, ‘The Feeling of Deep House’ and ‘Women in Hip Hop Around the World’.

The Universal Zulu Nation’s LA Chapter newspaper, “The Fifth Element” welcomes her column every quarter. Vanessa has also co-directed documentaries on Hip Hop Moroccan wedding, l’Ecole des Sables (Germaine Acogny, Senegal), French Hip Hop and Battle for the Belts. Her guest teaching includes universities, cultural centers and dance studios throughout Los Angeles, Brussels (Belgium), Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) and Dakar (Senegal). Vanessa’s love for children and devotion to dance have given her opportunities to teach in known institutions such as: UCLA, Santa Monica High School, Santa Monica College, UES, Focus Fish, La Jazz Pizazz, Millennium, Debbie Reynolds and Centre Culturel Blaise Senghor among others.

In 2005, Vanessa was selected by the European Union to help develop a dance curriculum for European Universities. In addition, she has co-organized Battle for the Belts (a freestyle dance competition) and UCLA’s Summer Program in Senegal. Vanessa has danced with Cirque du Soleil, One Step Ahead, Soul Sector, the Get Down Dolls, Bohemia Dance, L’Esprit d’Afrique and Les Associes. Poppin Taco, Dante, Kevin Maher, Lollipop, Cricket, Stretch, Brian Green, Nzingha Camara, Aziz Faye, Germaine Acogny, Amadou Kienou, Rennie Harris, Hassan Christopher, Boppin Andre, Swoop and Brother have all been her mentors and teachers.

Finally, Vanessa’s belief that life happens through human connections and experiences by never stopping connecting the dots, allows her life to revolve around dancing; dancing internally and externally.
